If you're new to Austin, here's one thing to know: You've got to end your summer with "Giant."

That James Dean/Elizabeth Taylor film set in West Texas traditionally closes out the Paramount Theatre's Summer Classic Film Series. The historic theater on Wednesday released the lineup for the final round of films in the series.

"Giant," famously filmed in Marfa, will screen at 7 p.m. on Sept. 9. Another film that Texans love is also on deck: the biopic "Selena," showing at 7: 30 p.m. on Aug. 18

The final films in the series, like "Giant," are all butt-numbers with lengthy runtimes: "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," "Lawrence of Arabia," "The Godfather Part II" and "2001: A Space Odyssey."

The Paramount's traditional showcase of Alfred Hitchcock films returns, too, with "Shadow of a Doubt," "Vertigo," "Rear Window," "North by Northwest" and one of this writer's faves, "Strangers on a Train."

More movies you can catch when the sun is hot and the Paramount air conditioning is cool: "High Noon," "25th Hour," "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?," "To Kill a Mockingbird," "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," "A Face in the Crowd," "In the Heat of the Night," "Dirty Dancing," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "The Goonies," "The Princess Bride," "Coal Miner's Daughter," "Funny Girl," "Grease," "Oliver," "The Sound of Music" and "Tokyo Story."

Also, Alamo Drafthouse has gotten in on the summer movie series game, too. On select Fridays, the Austin-based cinema chain will bring films to Moody Amphitheater in Waterloo Park. Things kicked off July 8 with "Sing 2." Next up: "Spider-Man: No Way Home" on July 22 (complete with a heroic costume contest) and, reinforcing the appeal of a good Texas icon, "Selena" on Aug. 5.

Movies begin at sunset, with preshow music at 7:30 p.m. from DJ Mahealani before "Spider-Man" and Bidi Bidi Banda before "Selena."

The screenings are free to the public. Bring lawn chairs and blankets, and picnics and leashed dogs are welcome. Leave the glass containers and alcohol at home.
